Key points between O365 & Microsoft 365 Licensing

While comparing the O365 & M365, O365 is been considered as a cloud-based suite, that includes apps like Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and much more, whereas the Microsoft 365 is completed a bundled suite which includes the Office 365 plans and also some additional services.

So while comparing the O365 plan the subscriptions in this plan includes Skype for Business, Sharepoint, Onedrive, Teams, Yammer, Planner etc but whereas in the M365 license which includes Windows 10 Enterprise, the security plan includes Enterprise Mobility+Security (EMS), whereas the O365 plan do not include any of the EMS tools.

For the Threat protection the services like Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics, Device Guard, Credential Guard, App Locker, Enterprise Data Protection, Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection, Azure Advanced Threat Protection all these are been covered in the M365 E3 & E5 plan whereas this does not include in the O365 plans with the exception of one of the services “Microsoft Defender for Office 365 (formerly ATP) Plan 2” that covers in the O365 E5 & M365 E5 plans.

In the services of the Identity & Access management Azure Active Directory P1 w/ Conditional Access, SSPR for Hybrid Identities, Azure MFA, Cloud App Discovery and AAD Connect Health, Azure Active Directory, SSPR Cloud Identities, MFA, SSO > 10 Apps, Windows Hello, Credential Guard and Direct Access, Azure Active Directory P2 with PIM all that is been covered in the M365 E3 & M365 E5 plans but does not include in any of the O365 plans.

The rest of the services like Device & App management and for the Information Protection & compliance most of it is been covered in the M365 plan where the O365 plans does not cover.

There is a benefit in the Microsoft 365 where it offers the upgrade rights to Windows 10 Pro from the Windows 7/8/8.1 Pro licenses but in the O365 this is not been available

So however for the smaller business O365 is been good to be subscribed, but as recommended to choose over the M365 plan for the business security. In the case of the running medium business while preferring the users security It is good to go ahead the M365. For the larger business live more than 300 employees there is a best way to choose the Microsoft full suite of productivity and advance security.

In the ECAL Suite (Exchange, Sharepoint, Skype for Business) which is been offered in both O365 & M365 plan but there is some additional benefits for the CAL rights in the M365 where it gives (Windows, SCCM, Windows Rights Management) whereas in the O365 that has been restricted.

For the Exchange online mailbox size allocated for this in the O365 plan is been limited to the 50 GB, but whereas in the M365 there is a benefit where it is been allocated to 100 GB.

For the file storage in the one drive business in the O365 is been limited to 1 TB but whereas in the M365 the consumer can benefit the unlimited.

There is a main services to view the social and video sites is the Microsoft streams, where this not been available in the O365 plan, where in the M365 this services been offered where the customer can avail this benefit.

There is an option offered in the M365 which includes the PSTN Conferencing, Cloud PBX, whereas in the O365 plan this is uncovered.

In the M365 services like Advanced eDiscovery, Customer Lockbox, Advanced Data Governance all this is been given but in the O365 plan this services had not been offered.

Based on the pricing comparison M365 is much more expensive than the O365, but there is much benefit in the extra services which is great help for manage company devices based on the advance security tools.
